Dr. Nandita Pathak – Deendayal Research Institute

Nanaji’s first words to her were, “Girls like you should not be working for money, but should serve society.” That was the turning point in her life and since then she has been committed to social service through Deendayal Research Institute (DRI).

Nandita Pathak-Dr. Nandita Pathak was born on 1st July 1971 at Venukonda in Andhra Pradesh. After completing her Post Graduation in Food & Nutrition, she met  Nanaji Deshmukh on a visit to Chitrakoot. Nandita Pathak is expert in Business Development, Public Relations & Leadership. She is very good Team Player with excellent interpersonal, analytical, presentation skills and highly scalable in managing multiple assignments at a time.

Since 1994, she is working with the Chitrakoot Project of Nanaji Deshmukh. She is actively involved in a self-reliance campaign being conducted in 500 villages around Chitrakoot to wipe out poverty, illiteracy, ill health and to ensure helthy, dispute free, clean and green villages.

She helped to establish and manage Udaymita Vidyapeeth, the entrepreneurship centre, for rural reconstruction and self-employment at the village level. Nandita was responsible for the innovations carried out by the centre for employment of rural youth. These include ‘one village, one product.’

She created multilevel employment generation through Self Help Groups (SHGs)  providing interest free micro finance to deserving needy youth, handicapped, landless and BPL families. Due to her efforts disputes and crime of the area is coming down. Migration of the local youth to city slums has also reduced. During last 10 years almost 25,000 unemployed youth( men & women) have been trained in various trades and among them 10,000 have directly started earning between Rs 1800 to Rs 25000/- monthly though self-employment.

For  the last 6 years she is running  a campaign called Rojgar Abhiyan. In this process she made direct communication to more than 100,000 rural youth. Nandita is also a major motivating factor for the women in the villages of the Chitrakoot Project and has encouraged them to become a compelling voice in the development plan for their village areas. She believes that without women participation, society cannot be fully developed, and has, therefore, organized women awareness programmes that include an annual ‘Mahila Sangam’ for their motivation and upliftment, since 2000. Each year the Sangam has a different theme and focus. Around 15-20,000 women, who come from different areas at their own expanses, are directly benefitted by the programme.

Nandita has attended over a 100 seminars as the keynote speaker at the national and international level at forum like IDCA, Terra Madre, CAPART, NBRI, ICAR, CFTRI, CSIR and KVIC to name a few. She is also a board member in many reputed organizations and universities which includes Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK) New Delhi; Central Board for Labor and Child Education and Madhya Pradesh Science & Technology Council (MPCST) etc.
